I recently got a smart phone to use with the old speakout wireless sim, voice and text only sim. When I tried to use the phone, I discovered I had $0 balance, all the money is depleted. It's not possible because I seldom uses this phone and I just refilled it less than 2 months ago. Bought another voucher and stopped using wifi to get on to the Internet, now all money is almost gone too. Even if I leave it alone without using the phone or wifi, it still eats up money. How can this happen? I now try to turn off all apps show notification to see if it helps. In the meantime, I am trying to figure out what's eating up the money. Does it happen to anyone?

This all seems strange, but here are some thoughts.
Using wifi has nothing to do with Speakout. You are using your own internet provider. (You can remove the sim card and still use your phone to surf the web.)
The only ongoing charge from Speakout is $1.25/month for 911 service. Did you check the call log on your phone? Is data turned off? (although if you've never subscribed to the data plan, you should have no access to it.) Do as Dennis says and call customer service.

You need to disable 'mobile data' if you do not have a data plan.
You seem to be thinking backward in your logic. Your phone will use data whether you have a data plan or not. However if you do NOT have a data plan, the data charge will be much more expensive.
If you have wifi on, then your phone will NOT use mobile data when it is connected to the wifi network.
Turning off notification also would not prevent your phone from using data.
Not having a data plan, and switching off the wifi are the two reasons why your account is running out of money.

The phone is on a prepaid plan and never subscribed to any data plan. The Wi-fi is always on and mobile data is off. At one point, I found out the mobile data is being turned on and I don't know if this gets turned on by accident or by any apps, I quickly switched it off.
After I turned off the mobile data, it's still eating money away. This phone is just a backup phone, it's hardly use for voice.
Can apps use the phone prepaid money without data plan? For those with a speakout wireless account, will it give you detailed info about how money is being used and for what? Thanks.
