hello,
i was interested in how much personal information must be shared with SO customer service when the following are done:
1. activating a new phone.
2. setting up voice mail for the first time.
3. using a referral code.
4. getting a referral code.
5. is there any service where you have to give a lot personal info?
thank you.

You don't have to give out any personal information to activate and set up a SO phone. Referral codes are just that, numbers. No personal info is required to get them or to use them.

The only case where you may have to give SO personal info is if you want to port an existing phone number to them. You have to prove the number is yours already so you have to give them info about your current account with the other carrier.

Other than that, if you buy the phone and airtime with cash, to SO you're just a phone number (and IMSI number and IMEI number, etc. if you want to get technical.)
