Can I port a zero balance Virgin Mobile Prepaid phone number to Speakout?

I do not like my existing Speakout phone number, I like the Virgin phone number better. Can I have my Virgin phone number port out to Speakout when the Virgin account balance is zero?

If the Virgin account's funds are depleted, then the account will be deactivated. You can only port an active account.

That is partially correct. When the Virgin account's funds depleted, the account will only be deactivated after 60 days. The account is still active during this 60 days, if I buy a top up within the 60 days, I could use the phone again.

In any case, I confirm the Virgin account is active and it has zero balance. I am wondering if I can port a zero balance Virgin Mobile Prepaid phone number to Speakout?

I'd be interested in knowing if this is possible. I'm currently on an old feature phone Virgin Prepaid but with the shutdown of their CDMA system soon I'm looking around. SO looks like a good deal to me.

Anyways I'd like to run my account balance down to zero before porting my number to SO.

You can certainly port from any prepaid account of any provider even if the account has a zero balance. You do have to make sure the account is active though, which is usually the case at least 30 days after you have a zero balance. With some providers, it could be later than that, but you are probably playing with fire if you want to keep your number.

Thanks bridonca. I figured as much and it's nice to have confirmation. No sense leaving money with Virgin.

Just realize that your old phone is not going to work on Speakout, which doesn't support CDMA.

Yup got that and I'm looking at their phones. Our local 7-11 only carries one model (Alcatel 871A) but I may pick up the BLU from Amazon instead. Works out to be cheaper when shipping is factored in.

Anyways, I'm still in research mode as the CDMA shutdown isn't till January 2017.

I was curious about how long after I buy and activate a SO phone that my number could ported over so I submitted the question on the website Contact Us Form Submission.

"Is there a time limit when porting my number to a new SpeakOut phone? I'd like to run down the balance on my old Virgin prepaid phone first."

Hello,

There is no time limit however both number must be active in order to be available for porting.

Thank You,

I had initially asked the question by email but when I didn't get an answer after a few days then used the website Contact Us Form Submission. Anyways the answer to the email finally showed up today after 8 days.

Hello,

There is no time limit. Be sure that your SpeakOut number remains active and has sufficient funds to the monthly Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1.25 to be deducted.

Thank You,
