Is it possible to port over a number from a Fido pre-paid? From what I can understand, the number porting process requires some account information so that the SO rep can verify the number is yours or something?

Well since I just pay $10 a month to keep the phone active, I don't really have any account information.

Just call SpeakOut customer service, and tell them you want to port from Fido prepaid. As far as I know, all the information they'll need is your phone number, and your voicemail PIN number.

My number was ported from Fido with:
1. My Speakout phone number
2. My Fido phone number
3. My IMEI number with an unlocked phone from a different provider

I called on Sunday and within 2.5 business hours on Monday, my number was ported over to Speakout.

clarencehoser,

Thanks for the input!

Hopefully coolxal's port will go smoothly.

That's it? But how do they verify that you own the number (Fido) and not just taking someone else's?

Well I guess if that works then it's all good.

They verify your personal credentials (that you are who you say you are) with Fido.

Yeah that was it. Speakout did not ask for any of my personal information.

It even says on the Speakout website:

“What information will you need from me to transfer my number to SpeakOut? My Swiss bank account info?” question arrow

“Nah, it won’t be that bad. To transfer a wireless number to SpeakOut here’s what you need:

Your current wireless phone number and most recent monthly bill, OR
Your phone number and one of the following: your account number, your password/PIN, or your phone’s Electronic Serial Number/Mobile Equipment Identifier (ESN/IMEI) number which is located on the back of your phone under the battery.

When I ported to SpeakOut, all the info I gave them was my number, and my voicemail PIN.
