This question may have been asked before. So, my apology if that's the case.
I have a Speakout with Toronto (416) number and say my friend from Australia is visiting Toronto. He has a cellphone with Australian number. When he is in Toronto, he stays in a hotel 100 meters away from my house. My question is if I call him (on his Australian cell number) with my Speakout cellphone, would I be charged for roaming/International charges? Thanks.

jktan99,
I'm from Australia with an Australian number. When you call your friend, you will be calling his Australian number: +614xxxxxxxx. This will be routed to Australia, then back to Canada and to his number via his roaming provider. Regardless if the roaming provider is the same network as you or any other factors you will be charged for an international mobile call. He will also be charged to receive the international call.
The only thing that was free for me was to receive text messages on my Australian phone on raoming when I was in the USA. Sending a text costs almost twice as much as it would normally and dad was so expensive I almost had a heart attack when i was charged 300 dollars for using google maps for a couple of minutes.
Tell your mate to get a speakout sim card too. Tell him to put the Aussie sim card into his speakout phone that he gets with the simcard and use the speakout simcard in his aussie phone so he keeps his contacts. Then have that phone divert all his calls to his normal phone. He will be charged to forward calls though so beware. Unfortunately I do not know of a way to forward SMS unless you have a new Nokia with an app.
I'm after a speakout simcard myself for when I get to Winnipeg. I'll be using my Aussie iPhone. I'm trying to find out if Data will work on it and 3G.
