I bought a phone over the weekend, a Nokia 5300. It was previously used on the Rogers network. Came with no SIM. Today I bought a SO phone (nokia 1661) and took the SIM card out and popped it into the 5300. Previously, the 5300 had a permanent message in the upper part of the screen about 'no sim inserted'. That is now gone but when I power up the phone it says, 'sim registration failed.' I cannot get service. What is wrong? If I try the sim card in the SO phone will it still port easily to the Rogers 5300 phone? Will I have to unlock the 5300? Any advice will be appreciated.
None of the SO phones appeal because of their poor cameras and lack of MP3's so I really want to be able to use a different GSM phone with this service. Thanks.

I'll add to this thread in case anyone else gets the "SIM card registration failed" message on their 5310 (or other phone). I was getting this error and the phone wouldn't call 611, which was how I had thought I remembered activating my previous one. Turns out in the instructions 😳 it does say to call the customer service number from a landline to activate. That worked! Still, a better error message might be more helpful...
