I bought a petro can Nokia 1208 yesterday and want to know how I can go about using the sim and petro can service in my old Nokia 2610 from Rogers. I much prefer the 2610 as it has rubber grips that make it easier for me to hold.

Is it a matter of just putting the Petro Can sim in my rogers phone and then calling petro can for activation with my air time? Many thanks for the help.

You shouldn't even have to call Petro Canada unless you want to port a number over. Simply put the SIM in, turn on the phone, and start calling.

Peter thank you for your quick response. At the risk of sounding stupid, should I activate my air time and the just bought phone first, and then swap the sim card over to the old phone--or, swap the sim card first and then activate the new air time on the old phone? I haven't activated the just bought phone and air time yet. Many thanks.

It doesn't matter. Airtime is associated with the SIM, not the phone.

The phone/SIM you bought comes with $5 or $10 of airtime and is preactivated so you can start using it right away. You have 90 days to activate the airtime top-up receipt/coupon by calling 611 from whatever phone your SIM happens to be in. (Again, the top-up airtime is associated with the SIM.)

One thing that you may want to do is to ask the PetroCan Mobility rep how to change the voicemail phone number on your Rogers phone.

I was in the same situation as you (but with SpeakOut) and the my old Rogers phone still had the Rogers voicemail number to call. It was pretty easy to change and the PetroCan guy can give you instructions because he/she should be familiar with the 2610.

I have both SO and PC phones. The SO phone is pre-activated. But PC phone is not. You have to dial a phone # to activate the phone. They will give you a new phone #. You have no choice. You have to use it or you can port a phone # from your other phone.

Thanks for the clarification. Another diference to add to the SO vs. PCM list.
