Everytime I try to turn my phone (Nokia 1661), it says insert SIM (although the SIM card is inserted) and is in demo mode. Or it does not turn on at all anymore and says "Test mode". According to the speak out webpage, one can replace one's SIM card for a $25 fee. As I don't know whether it is the SIM card which is not working or the phone which does not accept the SIM card, I am wondering whether it makes sense to replace the SIM card or whether it would be smarter to buy a new phone with the "buy $100 airtime get a free phone"- promo... i actually do not care about getting a new number.
Any experiences with SIM-card replacement???

That sounds like a defective phone to me. It isn't detecting the sim. As for the the "get a free phone" promotion, as far as I know, that ended on Dec 31. Some stores will stay have that promotion, but it will be hit and miss.

If you can, borrow another SpeakOut phone to test the sim, or another unlocked phone.
