How do I send a text message to an e-mail address on my Speakout GSM phone ?
send the message to this number: 0000000000 (that is 10 0's)
Write the text message in the following format:
address@domain.com Here is the message
(in other words, first the email address, and then a space, and then the message)
Tried it, works fine to a gmail address anyways. They charged me 10 cents for sending a message to email.
Great tip. I just tried it out and it worked for me too.
The e-mail subject ended up being: "Rogers Wireless Message / Message de Rogers Sans-fil" and the "From" address was 6045555555@pcs.rogers.com
(replace 6045555555 with the sender's 10-digit number)
Replying back to [10digitnumber]@pcs.rogers.com didn't work, but this was expected since e-mail to text is usually a paid service (and currently unavailable from 7-Eleven)...
I too was charged 10 cents. If a few more people confirm this I'll add it to the FAQ ๐

I did exactly this on Friday - and was going to test it with a couple more variables before posting here - looks like I was too slow!
I wondered if it might be a legacy from my original Rogers cell account - has someone who did not port from Rogers checked this?
It works to 3 different email addresses - although Rogers/Yahoo sent it to the junk [Bulk] filter! None was successful in replying.
In the headers there is reference to (EHLO terminus.rogers.page.ca) (216.220.41.243) which might help someone more technical than me figure out a reply method?
Haven't checked the cost - should it not be 5 cents? - although maybe the system knows that most mail servers are in the US?

Yes, the number I used (see above; we cross-posted) is an ex-Bell Mobility number.
Cost was 10รยข, not 5รยข. Since it's not a documented feature I don't see any (legitimate) basis for complaining to SpeakOut that they overcharged us ๐

And how did you enter the phone number - I've been playing with it and get an error every time ๐
Tried 001226xxxxx and 01226xxxx and 011226xxxx etc (226 is the area code) 01 is the code for Canada... what did you enter before the phone number?

001519xxxxxxx works fine for me. It's possible that the 226 overlay (on top of 519) isn't yet recognized by freesms.1888usa.com. Try contacting them.

which SMS service did you select to successfully text to SpeakOut? There seems to be a lot of providers at this site, and none of them have SpeakOut listed as an option (and Fido/Rogers don't seem to work). thanks

Hi
Is it possible that the SO Sim also has an SMS function in the card itself?
Rogers has an SMS service on its SIM Cards that is separate from the text messaging on the phone.
I've used it to send and receive SMS messages (at no extra charge) to and from my Rogers Internet Stick which has no voice plan attached to it. The "stick" uses a SIM card, and I am assigned a Rogers phone number which is stored in the SIM card in the "stick" for a computer to connect to the internet. To Acess the SMS function, you have to go to the applet that connects the "stick" to the Internet on your computer.
I'm wondering if the SO SIM has a similar function buried deep in its secrets.
I'll play around a bit to see if I can figure that out.
I have a Samsung Jack locked to Rogers which works perfectly as a voice and text phone with the SO SIM. It browses and does all things data with the SIM from the Rogers Internet Stick. The only hassle is changing the SIM cards depending on what I want to use the phone for.
If I try to browse with the SO SIM in the phone, it just tells me that the service is not available -- I think it may charge for a text message to tell me that -- I'm going to try it with balance checks before and after testing.
However, I have to be very careful that I don't accidentally make phone calls with the Rogers SIM in place because the guy at the phone store said it would work with a very nasty surprise on my next bill.

So can you receive text messages from people who email your number?
eg. 778YOURNUMBER@pcs.rogers.com
Will I receive an SMS?

The number for sending to an email address from a US SpeakOut phone is 36245. Same format - email address/space/message. I have a dual sim phone with both Canadian and US SpeakOut service. Here on the south coast of Vancouver Island, I can sometimes access US SpeakOut's carrier Cingular ATT, if I'm near the water.

Hey guys, just tried sending a text to my phone from my hotmail. I sent it to MYNUMBER@pcs.rogers.com and got a text message from 30500001 saying "Welcome to Rogers Email o SMS. You have mail, but are not subscribed; reply 'Yes' to this message to subscribe."
So what should I do? Will this incur any additional costs? Anyone here have any information on this? Thanks.

You won't be able to reply because the message came from a short code, which is not supported on SpeakOut. See this thread - you can send SMS from the Rogers website to a SpeakOut phone, but not email to SMS.
