Hi,
I've had a number of calls from telephone solicitors on the 7/11 phone, one even from California. I've never given this number out to anyone other than immediate friends. I'm wondering a couple of things: 1) Does 7/11 pass your details to any 3rd parties that could explain this, and 2) is there some way to block these numbers? Thanx

Well, you can try and place your number on the Canadian Do Not Call list.
Also, each time a company calls, ask to be put on their Do Not Call list.
Never buy anything from a telephone solicitor, or say anything that may hint that you are interested in their product or service.
Doing those three things should reduce or even eliminate the calls you get.

I had the same thought as the philosopherdog.
Ever since I transferred my number over to 7/11 Speakout plan from Bell mobility, I been getting lots of calls from telemarketers.
They are almost always from States (California mostly) and are also automated.
I have not given out my number to anyone new since I transferred the number and I didn't have this problem prior to transferring the number.

OTOH I ported from Bell some 2 years ago yet I've never gotten so much as one telemarketing call. I doubt Bell or SO pass numbers on to telemarketers.
You can try the Do-Not-Call list, however, there have been media reports that telemarketing scum get that list and use it to make calls from outside of Canada. Again, OTOH my cell number has been on the DNC list since day-1 yet still no telemarketing calls.
I'm as confused about why some people get these calls yet others don't. But I'm glad to be a member of the latter group.
