Hi there,
Is anyone aware of whether or not the number that assigned upon registration is based on the store code that is supplied with it?
I live in Ottawa, but bought a phone in Calgary, and I'd like to avoid the $10 change of number charge if possible and was curious if there was someway I could get a 613 number when I activate.
Thanks for any help!

I think it would be a good idea, but would only be for brand new unactivated sim cards. You don't need a store code if you just need a number change on the sim to get a local number.
For instance, I bought a sim card from a seller in Calgary, and he shipped it to me in Niagara Falls. All I had to do was call SpeakOut customer service, and changed it to my area code.
If you are buying a new sim, the seller should include the activation card that came in the package, which has the store code on it, as well as the other codes you may need.

Hi.. I'm going to activate a SIM bought from a user in Vancouver, who sent me the Activation code and the store code(Vancouver) he bought. But I'd like to get a Toronto/GTA number..? How can I get a local store code so that I don't have to call Speakout customer service again just to change the area code.. Please help!
Also, I tried calling the Speakout wireless customer service instead of going through the automated activation because I have the store code of Vancouver and not Toronto. The customer service rep looked baffled and said that I should be able to choose the area code when activating... I don't trust this a bit as the automated activation system looks up the available numbers based on "store codes" and not from where I call to activate..!!
Please help me out... Thanks in advance..

I just wanted to do the same you suggested. But the Rep insisted me going through the automated system which would definitely not identify which area code I need based on my location but on the store code entered..! So.. I am confused.. To call again and see if I get a better Rep who knows more what I am talking of and not just insist to activate it through automated system..!
OR should I take the 7-11 Speakout voucher to a 7-11 local store where I can get/change the store code to a local one.... As it gives an option on the activation voucher as "Store Transfer"..??
Please suggest. Thanks

I would just go through the human customer service rep, and not the automated system. The customer service rep was right when he/she said you will be able to choose. Just give them the codes, then tell them what area code you want the phone activated in.

I had a very similar situation a few months ago. I spoke to the customer service rep, and gave her all the codes, and then I stated what area code I wanted the phone activated in. It was no problem for her. I would call again, and talk to a different rep.
Maybe the one you talked to was lazy, and didn't want to go through the steps. They just wanted to forward you to the automated system, so they wouldn't have to deal with you. If you call back, and they still can't do anything, I would ask to speak to a manager/supervisor.
