I emailed google about this awhile ago and this was the response they gave me after a few exchanges.

Hi Johnathan,
Thank you for your patience. Please note that Google Calendar uses an SMPP
mechanism to send to Rogers, and thus we're unable to provide you with an
email address. We appreciate your understanding.
Regards,
The Google Team

This was to the response asking what email address they were emailing the SMS to. It seems they don't use regular email to text but that special SMPP mechanism.

There is this website TxtDrop via which one can send SMS over the internet. They seem to have a list of many Mobile Service Providers... I send them a questions while back on the subject... they said that there is some difficulty sending SMS via Internet to Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) as they need to distinguish "number rangers" (I assume that it refers to the 3-digit number in telephone ###-123-####) ... as there are many MVNO runing on the Rogers network. I replayed that if someone would provide list of "number ranges" that map to 7-11 SpeakOut -- could they do it?... although I did not got response.

I came across a program that uses the SMPP protocol like google and it works!

The only problem is it limits the number of messages you can send to 10.
I am still looking up whether I could setup my own SMPP server to handle sending messages.
But at least this is going somewhere. 😀
According to the SMS Forum (which is shutting down this year 🙁 I just discovered it now!), there's no free lunches in setting up your own SMS-sending server. But who knows... times are a-changin'!

If you're a facebook user (or the people that may want to contact you are) try "Send SMS"
http://apps.facebook.com/send-sms/
I have it on my facebook page, and it works well.
So far the texts I've received through it haven't cost me anything.

Skype is a solution for texing from PC to 7-Eleven phone, if you are Skype-out user.
It costs the sender from Skype, however the receiver on 7-Eleven is not charged anything as I tested by myself.
On the opposite direction(7-Eleven to Skype or E-mail), we can use M-Mail service from Connectotel, a UK company.
http://www.connectotel.com/sms.....skype.html
http://www.connectotel.com/sms.....mmail.html
This costs me 25cents per message for the sender on 7-Eleven and no charge for Skype side.
REMINDER: A reply for the text message(originated from Skype) won't work. You should use another new message from your cell to reply. However, the reply from Skype would work.
It took about 20 hours for me to figure out these tips, and I hope my experiment would help you also.
Moreover, if there is any way to set up SMS(SMPP) server not using GSM modem(because it charges me the air/network time) or some devices alike, I wanna contribute something!

This site worked for me. You have to provide a callback number and it may add an ad message.

This site works. It seems to be free???? Verify this.
I hope they don't spam us.
