I need phone in Vernon BC, None of the 7-11 stores in Vernon have any 1600's.
Can I get Vernon phone number form Kelowna or Vancouver??
Yes, in a roundabout way. You can buy a Speak Out phone from anywhere in Canada and then call them up to switch your number to a local one. I believe they charge you anywhere between $0 and $10.

In case you don't know this already: the VM phone (even if unlocked) cannot be used on the 7-11/Rogers network because it has a different protocol (CDMA vs GSM).
Then when I got back to the office my wife called to tell me she won a top end Nokia prepaid from Virgin Mobile. Guess I might sell off the other 1600 once I see what the VM phone is like.

Try this. It works for me. Currently I have a blue backgroud, very easy to see.
Menu-->Settings--->Display Settings--->Themes---> Themes 20 --> activate -->Current Profile
Then go back to Color schemes , adjust to blue.
Good luck

The 7-Eleven phones have so far (no guarantees that they won't suddenly change this) all been unlocked except for the 2610.
Got the 1600 this morning (after a false start - my local 7-11 had the display but claimed they had no phones, so I went to the next 7-11 along the way and they had plenty!). I can confirm the phone is unlocked - put my Fido SIM in and it works fine. The 7-11 SIM also works in my old phone of course, since that's unlocked too.
Just one gripe with the 1600 - the menu highlight is a faint red background which fades in and out, but the text is white! My old eyes have problems reading the highlighted item, which is a bit of a problem! Anyone know if that can be changed? The color scheme edits have no effect.
Also, any way to get my contact numbers from my old SIM into phone memory, to save me having to enter them all? I'll be moving my number across when 7-11 CS wakes up on Tuesday :-0). Meanwhile I'll be using the 1600 on Fido: it's a better phone than the old one!

So, does this mean if you take the SIM out of the 7Eleven phone and put it in a unlocked phone the voice mail will not work?

I've got it!
Here is Ottawa, ON. This morning I headed to a 7-Eleven store at Rue Augusta x Rue Rideau, and got a FREE Nokia 1600 by buying four C$25 airtimes.
You can easily split C$100 of required airtimes into C$25x4. However, it seems that I should use(top up) them within 90 days following theiw Terms of Service.
Is it correct???
Thanks.

I just went to the Campbell River. BC 7-Eleven and bought the phone. All they had was the Nokia 1112 but I don't really care as I am going to use the SIM in my other unlocked phone anyway. The 1112 will just be a backup. Even though the add clearly stated you have to buy the $100 card, I was told the deal was good with the $50 card as well so all I ended up paying was $56.50 including Tax! Great deal!

Aren't both the 1600 and 2610 2 of the models that have the recalled BL-5C battery that overheats? Or do these newer shipments have different batteries? These models were on the list in Aug.

I walked into a 7-11 in Winnipeg and bought 4 $50 refills ($226) and got two 1600s as well, one for my wife and one for my parents.
Then when I got back to the office my wife called to tell me she won a top end Nokia prepaid from Virgin Mobile. Guess I might sell off the other 1600 once I see what the VM phone is like.

I got a 1600 few days ago in Ottawa, ON.
It uses BL-5C, but from Nokia's website, I confirmed that my battery was just OKAY.
I assume that this phone package is newly shipped one. Of course, it might vary from where you buy.
