I believe you punch in #31#, then the number. I know on landlines it's *67. I think I tried *67 on my SpeakOut phone, and there was a recording to punch in #31# next time.
OK thanks.
So you can't set it permanently?
How about programming your numbers with the #31# before the numbers?
I'll try it now, but I think my old phone (the one I'm using now) will only allow 10 or 11 digit numbers.

I'm not sure if there is a permanent solution. You might call SpeakOut customer service and ask. I'm not aware that they could or would do that.
I called and they told me that it's possible to set your phone to block your ID by going: menu/settings/call settings/send my caller id/no
With my 4 year old phone it just allows me to do that on a per call basis, not permanently. I suppose the newer phones allow for a yes/no setting.

I called SO customer service about this issue and they told me that call blocking wasn't possible with Nokia phones. I was using a 2720 at the time. Since I switched to a 5130xpressmusic, I found the feature mentioned above that lets you go into Call Settings and turn off sending caller id.
Strange response initially from customer service!

Using an iPhone the setting is found in Settings/Phone/Show My Caller ID. I assume that your phone only sends out your phone number and not your name like a landline would? It seems like its up to the receiving phone to match the number to a name in the address book, if that record exists? So, if you get a call from someone that isn't a contact, all that will show is the number right?

Correct. The cell phone will only send out the number.
