i think the installation is already on my phone, but not picking it up in the utility. as when i click the install button it just starts my phone , doesnt ask to install anything.
What i did before was delete the Configuation profile in the iphone configuration utility, so nothing is showing up there now.
i am located in Peterborough.
is there a way to check that this tool is installed on my i phone (since there isn't a profile in settings) ?

If a profile is installed on your phone, you will only see that profile in ghe utility, withthe option to remove it. If no profile is on the phone, the utility will show the three profiles you created, with the option to install. As your utility is giving the option to install, we can assume that there is no profile installed on your phone.
Start from scratch, backup in iTunes, restore to you're current firmware, re-jailbreak, reinstall the utility, then reinstall the profile.

Use this site to figure out what your options are...
http://www.jailbreakmatrix.com.....-Jailbreak
You should be able to download the 4.0.1 firmware to your computer, the force itunes to restore from that. If your phone is Rogers, you will NOT need to jailbreak or unlock it. Just put in the SIM and go.

OK, so it has been confirmed by at least two different posters here that the iPhone 4 will work with SO's browsing.
My question is if my Rogers iPhone 4 will be problematic because it is locked to Rogers. If you have little reason to suspect so, then I am ditching my Rogers monthly plan and switching over to SO ASAP.
BTW, mine is not jailbroken. I don't know if that matters.

A Rogers iPhone 4 should be no problem on Speakout. Rogers doesn't really use the goam network anymore, so I think they stopped blocking iphones from usinhg it long ago.
I do suggest that you buy a SIM card and try it out before you cancel you Rogers account. I can see someone who has been used to 3G speeds being disappointed with SO's proxied 2G speeds. It might suit your needs, it might not, give it a try first.

Anyone have any luck with using this plan in Android?
Android does not seem to support using an APN proxy server, except for the built in WebKit browser.
After much frustration, I have been able to use SO to access the web on my Android LG Optimus.
It was not as straight forward as I had thought. I got an unlocked LG Optimus that came with Android 1.6 and was unable to get online. I upgraded to Android 2.1 and used the apn:goam.com proxy:10.128.1.69 port:80 username:wapuser1 password:wap setting.
Access is inconsistent, but does work.

Thats interesting, but I'm wondering what carrier your 3G was originally locked to? My theory is that the majority og 3G models out there are Rogers units and have been blocked via the IMEI number from working on the GOAM network. My guess is that your phone may be a Bell phone and that Rogers has not blocked the IMEI number? Can you please confirm the original carrier please?
Sorry first time backā¦
It's a 1.5 year old brand new replacement unit given to me straight from Apple Store. The original phone AFAIK was a Rogers phone. (I bought the phone from the guy right at the Apple Store as he got it back). I have sent him a message to ask, but I am 99% sure it's Rogers because I have not unlocked the phone since upgrading to iOS 4.1 and if it was Fido it would not work. The only sim ever installed in the phone is my very old speakout one no Rogers sim has ever been installed.
I guess I should add that my steps allow the phone to still work on iOS 4.1, jailbroken, but not unlocked.
Unless Apple gave me an unlocked phone, which I seriously doubt.
Bell/Telus did not have iphone options back then.

If your phone is working and not unlocked, it is absolutely a Rogers phone. I'm fairly sure that Rogers has stopped IMEI blocking iphones on the Goam network, simply because they don't use it anymore.
And no, bell & telus didn't have the iPhone back then, but they certainly had the 3G model available to them after the fact.

So does that mean any iPhone 3G will now work? Can anyone confirm this?
No, the phones they blocked remained blocked. The last few Rogers sold, they didn't bother to block. Bell & telus 3g phones are likely not blocked either.

They do not seem to be blocking Rogers 3g iphones anymore. My old 3g which wouldn't work on speakout data now DOES work.
Can anyone else verify if their 3G Rogers iPhone is now working with the unlimited internet? I'd like to know before trying it again. It didn't work back in December when I first tried it.
Hopefully things have changed for the better!

Yup I can confirm it as well! I have a locked Jailbroken Rogers 3G (iOS 4.1)and I put my 2 year old Speakout SIM in it, phoned the Speakout people, activated unlimited browsing (took 5 minutes for Edge to appear).
I then followed these instructions to create a profile:
In the General settings turn off 3G and turn on "Cellular Data". I also restarted my phone.
Once I was finished I was surfing the Web. Just about everything works except for Apple Mail but I use Google Apps for most of my stuff anyway. Weather, Maps, App Store, Safari and just about all of the internet stuff works just fine so far.You also have to enable
I even tethered my MacBook to it and it works. I had to set a manual proxy server in Firefox to get it to work. The proxy server address is: 10.128.1.69.
Couldn't be happier!
