Just saw this and thought I'd give it a try. I can confirm that from London I am able to recieve incoming calls and make outgoing calls with 3G enabled. Cool!
I'm confused by the number of folks that use a browser for gmail. You can use the mail app for gmail, you just need to make sure you add your account as an exchange account and not a gmail account. I use mail for my work exchange account and my personal gmail account this way (obviously w/o push notifications)

I wondered the same thing and changed my profile to internet.com from goam - no difference, which didn't surprise me as I'm pretty sure those just affect data.
I wonder if it just volume of users on the 3G network and SpeakOut are the lowest priority, therefore not even getting in the queue for service in Toronto. In a less-saturated areas (London, St. Catharines, others??) perhaps the network can accommodate a SpeakOut call. Just a thought...
In the meantime, this may be a good solution for iPhone users, now that 3G is available:

Unfortunately thats really not a solution for us. I tried netTALK as well, which is another free voip app, and it just will not work through Speakout's proxy. I notice that Viber also relies on Push Notification, another feature that is not available through speakout.

Yikes, I was wondering what would happen on phones that have less system control. If you are absolutely certain that there is no way to turn off 3G on your phone, then you are likely screwed. Speakout will be of no help as they do not support your phone.
Just wondering if any of the actual Speakout phones are 3G capable? I don't think they are, so I really don't see the point of Rogers doing this?

what were your settings under the mail app? i am trying to add my gmail account as an exchange account as you suggested, but its unable to verify my credentials. I have entered my userid, password, email address. there is a box for "server" i merely typed in gmail.com, but no luck. I also made sure SSL option is turned off.
advice?

Regarding gmail and iPhone...
these instructions worked for me:

I have found that the following works:
weather app
maps app
App store (browsing only. As soon as I tried to download something it would prompt for my password. From there on no go!)
safari browser works (http only sites.)
Stocks app
these ones are not working:
opera app
youtube app (of course. it is blocked)
Facebook app (the new one)
gmail app
These are the only ones I have tested so far.
Also, I setup my iphone to enable 3g. I now have the 3g icon. Speeds are a little faster than the E (Edge). I am able to make outgoing calls when 3g enabled.

For me on a 3GS here are the differences from you...
Appstore - works fine currently, browsing & downloading
Safari - I can access https & http. Any others you want me to try, let me know
Facebook - latest version works fine for me
YouTube - Mine is working... Sort of. Some are playing, others aren't. Short vids load, long ones don't
Gmail app - just DLd via 3G, works perfect (not sure why you wouldn't use the mail app though)
Still cant make outgoing calls

And as to why YouTube plays shorter videos? My guess is that it has more to do with a download size limit than an actual blocking of youtube. You will notice that an iphone will not start playing a vid until a good portion of it is downloaded. This way, if the network stumbles it won't affect playback. So a 2 minute video might have a small initial download (probably under 1mb) but an 8 minute video may require 3mb. As soon as the DL hit 1MB, it fails. Not 100% on this, but that is what I believe is happening.
On a brighter note, the new 3G speed is more than enough for playing video on the CNN and FOX apps!

Are you jailbroken? If so, you may have installed the 'pushfix' app from cydia. I noticed that gmail would not connect through the mail.app after I installed this.
Needless to say, I removed pushfix. Everything worked fine again.

I really don't think the profile has anything to do with it. Its a door, either you are in or you are out. Things have kind of been coming and going since 3G showed up in my menu bar. First day I could DL from the app store, second day I couldn't, since then its been good again.
My setup is pretty straight forward, Rogers 3GS. Its jailbroken, but running minimal jailbroken apps. The only one that I could see that might be adding any benefit is an app called UAFaker. What it does is tell the network that you are accessing from a computer and not a phone so that you can avoid being directed to all the half a$$ mobile sites. I know that it works in Safari, not sure if it does anything with other apps, although I doubt it.
Given that some can make calls and others can't, my guess is that depending on your location, your data is being routed through a different network. Although they are basically set up the same, there are slight differences.
