On the iPhone I would say its far from "hit and miss". Pretty much any app that is not a messaging app will work. Push notifications will not work with any app over Speakout though. Here is a sampling of the apps that work for me...
-Safari plus any browser I've tried with the exception of Omni
-680 News, FOX News, CNN News (Video works too)
-Weather apps (all of them)
-Maps
-Navigon GPS
-Yahoo Messenger
-Twitter (Twitter App, Tweetie, and Echophon)
-YouTube (Only workis on videos under 2 minutes in length)
-App Store (Only able to download apps under 2MB)

I signed up for the unlimited browsing yesterday. I don't know what speed to expect but I feel this is very slow.
Location : Toronto downtown
Phone : Nokia E63 – Connection icon shows 3G.
Connection (Access Points) setup : tried "GoRogers" and "Rogers Media" (these two are there automatically) and followed instruction at https://www.speakoutwireless.ca/speak/phone-features/unlimited-browsing-on-a-nokia-n-series/
Functionally works but slow : native browser, Google maps, Opera Mobile 10
Speed test with native browser : mobilespeedtest.com shows 15 Kbps (100KB in 55 seconds)
I had a BB 8900 EDGE with Rogers. I felt the speed was faster with the BlackBerry.
E63's hardware is max at 384kbps, not as fast as HSPDA. However, the actual speed i'm getting should be better. Ideas? thanks.

Success!
Just a quick follow-up to confirm that I managed to get my 3G connected to the internet. I had been on 3.12 (jailbroken), and when I had unlimited browsing enabled before Christmas I was unable to connect to the internet. I tried all 3 proxies, multiple reboots/resets, removed and reinserted the SIM card, and called up to have them try resetting my connection - all to no avail.
I bit the bullet and upgraded to 4.2.1, and was immediately successful in connecting to Edge and 3G as soon as I loaded the first profile. I'm not sure if the upgrade to the baseband did it, but I'm happy nonetheless!
Thanks everyone for your input - forums like these go a long way in helping work through the options!

Glad you got it working. I doubt that the OS itself has anything to do with it. More than likely something got messed up in your OS3 installation and restoring to any OS would have fixed it. Glad you got it working and thanks for posting. Every bit of information helps to help others in the future.

Just tried the new Garmin iPhone app. Not sure what they were thinking as all the competitors (Navigon, TomTom, etc.) have their maps preloaded so no data connection is needed. Garmin chose not to do so and needs a data connection to download maps. The good news is that it works on Speakout!
Good to see that Garmin finally bit the bullet, swallowed their pride and released an iPhone app.

Unfortunately, the Nokia E63 3G slowness is found to be a known issue.

EDGE works as expected.
Please post if you can suggest a workaround for the E63 3G.
A surprising good news is Google Sync works on this phone. I'm getting push email, contact and calendar sync. SIP VoIP with the native client works well with WiFi.

Hi, I have just bought a Nokia 2220 from Petro Canada with an extra 100$ voucher and wish to use the Nokia sim card in it inside an unlocked iPhone 4 I also just bought from the Apple Store.
Should I activate the Petro phone with PetroCanada mobile, enable Browsing, and test both voice and data on the Nokia phone before I cut down the sim into a micro-sim format and stick it inside the iPhone 4 ?
I haven't seen someone test Browsing on a Speakout or Petro phone before moving it to an iPhone, i'm wondering if there's any way I can lock myself to just using the Nokia phone for Browsing if i do that.
Thanks all from all the great info i've been reading on this site

Thanks a lot, it works
Activated and filled up the Nokia phone, tested voice and data on the Nokia 2220, then removed and cut the Petro Canada sim to micro-sim format and stick it in the iPhone 4 using the settings under Page 16 of this thread. When I have 3G or Edge coverage, Maps, Gmail (Exchange settings) and Safari web browsing work.
