Are we certain those WAP settings are for the unlimited browsing? They did mention to me that there was also flat data rate of $0.04 / KB when I called earlier. They "may" only be giving you the unlimited part of you use their specific WAP machine, and not someone else's.
I'm trying to get my Nokia 6061 to show me it's WAP settings, but it hasn't got them yet from the SpeakOut network. Rebooted numerious times, I called again and they said to power the phone OFF for 15 minutes. We'll see. When/if I get the settings, and copy them to my HTC S621.

I am using a blackberry bold, and SO customer service told me i can not using internet service bcoz my original cell phone was Nokia 1661, I told them just go ahead to setup me to UL internet for $7/m, I can cancel it next mouth if I am not able to get through on my blackberry. After 15 min waiting, I reboot up my BB, it seemed not working, I check tcp/ip setting, there is nothing, then I set it to goam.com and userid/password in this thread, then It is working, and the page loading is faster than my expectation, it is smooth and fast.I didn't try any downloading, since i think it's just unlimited for browser, may charged for downloading, anybody can clarify this.

True using these settings make it work on the 3gs, but you need to setup a profile. Using the iphone config utility. More details in a blog post.

How well will this work on a non-speakout phone? I have taken my sim out and put it in an iphone and I am wondering if it will work.
OK I just phoned and activated it on my iPhone 3gs, will give it a try and report back on how it works.
Said wait 15 minutes and reboot phone, also you can call any time to cancel. Lady seemed a bit
unsure of answers to my questions, but we will see. I will watch the balance and see what happens.Glen Lalonde

Limited success, got wap browsing by using sim in 2610 using zmc configuration. Not sure the details of that, will see if they can be transferred to iphone.
Any word on how this works yet?
Details on what works, plus how to make it work on the iPhone are posted in my blog article.

I've been on Speakout for about a year now. I switched from Bell because of the low-cost long expiry vouchers. I'm wondering what's the point of having Unlimited Browsing WAP service on SpeakOut. If, eventually, it's going to cost $10/month, then the low-cost voucher's ($25 or $50) 1 year expiry (IMO the only advantage they offer) is of no value. Likely, everyone on this service will purchase the $100 voucher. Well, Rogers offers this already, and they only charge $7/month for WAP service, and online management, easier refills, etc. Am I missing something?

The 25% airtime bonus that SpeakOut offers when you buy $75 vouchers pulls the price down to $8/month and you get to keep $25 in your pocket for a few months vs the $100 Rogers airtime card. It's pretty tough for SpeakOut to sell service on the Rogers network for less than Rogers can. But what can we do? Rogers has a monopoly of national GSM service.

Okay. What am I doing? Or what am I doing wrong? I activated my data package with speakout, turned off my phone for 20 mins like the CSR said, and then . . . nothing.
I'm using a speakout sim (no idea what phone it was in originally) in a iphone 1st generation. Can't really see anything in the settings on the phone that will help. Has anyone set up a phone like this to work? What features and apps will work? I really hope I can set this up as I don't want to send Rogers $65/mo minimum for data.
Thanks and cheers!

According to recent posts on this forum, the 25% bonus on $75 and $100 vouchers will end on 31Dec09.
SO's website now has an asterisk beside the $75/$100 vouchers that leads to this disclaimer:
You'll still continue to receive bonus minutes when you purchase either the $75 or $100 voucher. But it's only available for a limited time; so be sure to snag those bonus minutes while you still can!

You should either be able to call the CSR again using that phone with the sim in it and they will see your #, or call another phone or friend and the number will be displayed.
Either which way the CSR's are very supportive and should be able to help you resolve your problem.

A number of settings changes need to be done. Users on this forum helped created the settings page I posted. See the current blog entry at http://www.binarysearchtree.com

Very nice Glen. Can you add a hotlink to the title, "Cheap data - Speakout network adds a data plan" so that people can find it in the future as stuff scrolls off your blog? Thanks.

Just ordered this up last night on my Sony Ericsson K790a. The original SO phone was a Nokia 1600 which isn't data capable, but when told that I was using a 3rd party Sony phone the CSR activated it anyway. Waited the 20 minutes, then restarted, then was mucking with profiles that I had already entered based on this thread. Didn't realize until later that after the restart there was a new Internet Profile automatically added:
RogersMedia
Use Proxy: Yes
Proxy address: 010.128.001.069
Port number: 80
Username: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Settings examined using "More -> Settings" from inside the "Internet Profiles" dialog.
This uses the "Data Communication" profile of RogersMedia as well:
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: media
Login Request: off
Allow Calls: Automatic
IP Address: ...
DNS Address: ...
Authentication: PAP
Data Compression: Off
Subject Compression: Off
I'm also able to use the goam.com 10.x.y.z profile as listed here.
I downloaded a game from wap.sonyericsson.com, and got the Gmail app and Google Maps app from m.google.com, both of which work surprisingly well. Google Maps even has a streetview and live traffic in its little java app. Browsing around let me get anywhere I tried (cbc, random websites, etc), and I was able to add RSS feeds and update those.
I attempted to setup my email account through the the sonyericcson wap site which successfully sent the settings to my phone. When attempting to use the client, however, it stalls on "Finding server..." ... looks like it's not using the proxy to get email.
So, likely only HTTP apps will work.

I have a iphone 3G and tried the steps and settings that Glen has on his website (thx Glen...) but I don't get anywhere. I click on the weather app, for example, and I get error 'could not activate cellular data network pdp authentication failure". I called Speakout and they said wap is activated and that they don't support iphone and I should try putting the SIM back into my original Speakout phone to verify.
Anyone else having this problem and found a fix?
I checked my profiles under Settings ->general and the profiles are setup there. I tried the 3 different ones listed on the redflag thread listed previously (see below) but no luck. I followed Glen's steps to the letter...Any ideas?
I'm in Regina, SK if that matters...

I just ordered it and it works on my n95.
I can do basic browsing and http apps seem to work.
I cannot get ebuddy or fring to work though. Anyone know of a client that might load msn? I used ebuddy's html client and it was OK... not ideal.
consequently, my phone is out of batteries now (only had 2 bars since I didn't charge last night).
edit:
the speed was super slow. I'd say 1-5kb/s
